If you are needing a few St. Patrick’s Day speech therapy ideas, I’ve got a few surprisingly simple ones for you! Here are 8 fun and easy ways to incorporate St. Patrick’s Day into your speech therapy sessions. (Includes Amazon affiliate links for convenience).
1. Green “Soup”
Gather green items from around your room and place them where the child can view them. I like to use a divided tray like the one above. Have the child request the different items to add to a large bowl or pot. I found a green cauldron at Hobby Lobby, but you can also grab them on Amazon.
2. Rainbow “Soup”
You can do the exact same thing as the green soup, but make it rainbow themed! I like using lots of different types of items that are different colors. Then, I have the students request which items they want to put in the pot. I also pretend I don’t know which one they’re talking about to make them use more descriptions! 🙂
3. St. Patrick’s Day Themed Books
If you love book therapy as much as I do, grabbing your favorite St. Paddy’s day book is an easy way to add to your theme. Here are my absolute favorites:
- Lucky Tucker
- There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover
- How to Catch a Leprechaun
- 10 Lucky Leprechauns
- Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Curious George
- Baby’s First St. Patrick’s Day
4. Easy Rainbow Crafts
There are SO many cute rainbow craft options out there on TPT and blogs. Here are a few of my favorites that are amazing for any St. Patrick’s Day speech theme! And they’re all FREE!
- These 9 fun rainbow activities from Easy Peasy and Fun
- This cute free rainbow craft from Sparkle SLP
- This lucky rainbow from The Dabbling Speechie
- Kindness rainbow cloud craft from Teaching with Crayons and Curls
5. No Prep Worksheets
I love anything that requires no prep. It makes life so much easier, especially since St. Patrick’s Day usually falls pretty close to progress report time! I’ve got these no-prep worksheets in my store that are pretty open-ended and great to pull out if I need something quick.
I’ve also got these 100 dot pages that are themed for different seasons and holidays throughout the year. I just pull out my St. Patrick’s Day one and go! The words are already there on the page.
6. Sensory Bins
I love making a “green” or “rainbow” sensory bin for my students! I use green Easter grass as my filler then add in lots of different green items from around the room. You can do the same with rainbow items.
This is kind of similar to the aforementioned “soup” idea. But with sensory bins you want to make sure that you are incorporating items of unique sizes, shapes, colors, and textures for a multi-sensory experience. It’s even better if they smell or make noise.
P.S. If you need tips for teaching your students to use sensory bins appropriately, you should definitely check out my sensory bin highlight bubble on Instagram!
7. Rainbow Play Dough Fun
I know everyone isn’t team play dough, but I love using it. It’s great for following directions, describing, and requesting. Making all the rainbows out of dough is a fun way to practice these skills.
Take it a step further and grab some themed cookie cutters to use with it like these on Amazon!
8. Open-ended Lucky Games
Turn any game into a “lucky” themed game by letting your students earn gold coins or shamrock erasers as points. I even let my students earn Lucky Charms cereal!
You can grab this fun and open-ended freebie from my store to use with any goal or card deck!
I hope you found some of these ideas helpful! You can visit my Amazon store for more specific items that I use around this time of year.
