How many of you do centers in your speech room? I’ve actually been doing them for the past couple of years as part of my professional growth plan. My previous administration was really big about keeping kids engaged at all times, so I knew centers would be the perfect way to do that!
I’ve used lots of different activities in my centers. Here are a few for articulation that I frequently rotate in and out:
- Drawing/writing station – white boards and markers, magnadoodle, or etch-a-sketch – Students draw a picture of their word while they repeat it
- Game station – open-ended paper board games that I’ve printed – Students say a word for every space they move
- Blocks station – legos, flexiblocks, wooden blocks – Every time they say a word, they can stack a block.
- Listening station – Hear yourself phones and mirrors – Practice saying their words in the mirror while using the phone to monitor
- iPad station – iPad – They practice their words using a flashcard or other artic app
- Computer station – computer programs – I have a few articulation computer games that I let them play
- Movement station – action cards – Students perform a gross motor action while saying their word over and over (i.e. Say it while jumping)
- Voices station – feelings cards or voice cards – Students practice saying their words in different voices (i.e. sad voice, monster voice, etc.)
- Words station – phonemic awareness/word activity cards – Students draw a card, say the word, and then do the phonemic awareness activity for the word (i.e. spell it, tell how many syllables, etc)
- Card deck station – card decks – I tell them to see how many matches they can find with their cards
- SLP center – One on one drill time with me, so I can take some good data!
Game center: Roll a die and say the target word the number of times rolled. Move the appropriate number of spaces on the race track game board. See how many times you can get around the track!

Love this! I would love to start doing centers but it will be tricky due to the lack of space I have…I might be able to have 3 centers but that’s about it.
Love centers! It allows for that one on one time we need with each student while keeping the others engaged.

What a wonderful resource for centers! I have very limited space for centers, but I would love to give it a try! And this packet makes it so easy since you have done all the prep work for each station!

I have not really done centers either. However, I think this would be great way to start them in an organized fun way. I think this would be great for ESY camp as well!!
