Get Organized Part 1: Digital Files

July 16, 2015

Are you a TPT-a-holic like me?  I’ve purchased so many fantastic TPT products over the past couple years that now I’ve racked up quite the collection.  The problem is I don’t always remember what I have, and it’s really tough to keep track.  I’ve made things and bought things and won things and now they are just scattered all over my computer.  Finally, I decided that enough is enough!  This summer I vowed to sit down and organize them.

I organized my files 2 ways to make sure I never lose anything and keep everything together.

1. The first way is a visual organizer.  Are you a visual learner too?  My photographic memory comes in handy sometimes, and I definitely want to use these powers for good and not for evil.  lol

MyDigitalSLProducts1

After being inspired by this post, I decided to create a PowerPoint file of templates categorized by the areas of speech therapy that I most often buy materials.  Then, I just inserted thumbnail images of the product into the templates.

I resized the image to fit into the squares and voila!  Now I have all my products at a glance.  It is a little time consuming initially to get your files together.  But now that I have it, it’s super easy to keep up with.  All I have to do is insert a pic each time I get a new product.

Aaaannndd guess what?  This product is now in my TPT store for you to get organized too!  It’s super cute and fully editable!  Click HERE to check it out!  There are lots of categories to get you started, plus blank sheets to add your own.

You can keep it digital and refer back to it as needed, or print everything out and stick it in a binder.  This gives you a nice reference book of the materials YOU OWN.  The packet also includes a binder cover and spines.

2.  The second way is to link the TPT downloaded files into the document.

To link to a document, just right-click on the image and select “hyperlink” at the bottom.

From that screen just select “document” and “select” then link to the appropriate product.

Once you have linked the product, all you have to do is right-click the image > hyperlink > open hyperlink to retrieve the file.

**Another option is that you could keep everything you have on your desktop front and center.  I personally have so much saved to my cloud and dropbox that I preferred to do it the other way.  That way I don’t take up tons of space on my computer.  But here’s a tutorial just in case.

The categories are set up the same.  You’ll just have to make new folders inside each of the categories to further organize.  See what happens when I open my “Fall Resources” folder below.

This background image is also included in the Keep It Together packet on TPT!  All you have to do is save it as your desktop background!

You can grab this product in my TPT store by clicking HERE! It’s half-off for the first 24 hours, so hurry and let me know what you think!

I am going to try and do this. I have a gazillion folders organized by topic and season and holiday! It is taking up quite a bit of space on my computer. Do you pay extra for cloud storage?

I don’t pay any extra yet! But my dropbox is almost full, so I’m going to have to see about upgrading! 🙂 Glad you’re going to try it!
